In the constant rush of today’s everyday living, we often tend to ignore things that matter to the tummy. The lesser availability of time and the very existence of mouth-watering choices in fast food often fills the need quickly. Not to forget the number of calories it adds along with some serious health disorders. But wait!

There is a garnish named hope or in simpler terms, a startup that will drive away the worries of the carbs. Salad Sensation is a startup, unlikely from the rest. It offers a wide range of healthy snacks and beverages that tackle the nutrition bit and also the health-conscious part of an entire diet. With six outlets in various corporate hubs, the startup is aiming to multiply to several tech parks where the employee capacity is anywhere between 2000 to 3000.  It aims to have at least a hundred outlets in a coming couple of years beyond which it will think if having exclusive retail stores.

The founders Aparna Karjagi and Paneesh Rao share a glimpse of their journey with us.

The idea and business plan originated from the founder’s experience of operating an organic store and vegetarian restaurant. The regular customers and corporate clients enquired if the founders could provide them with salads, beverages, and healthy snacks. They sensed there is a market for live salad bars that will encompass all these food and beverage offerings across the city. Their experience in corporate sales, procurement, team setup, menu design, belief in the industry helped them put together a very efficient and optimized model for corporate clients.

With the given fact that there are hardly any players Salad and Health food segment, the duo took a plunge into this segment adding more value with their related experience.

Aparna Karjagi – Founder

A – HR from VTU, Bangalore. Initial career days spent in the Human resources industry. Chose work with farmers and held CEO position at Green life Souharda Co-operative Society – worked closely with marginal farmers and took major initiatives in Organic food cultivation, created direct m to consumer retail markets.

Co-founded “In The Pink Organic Store and Vegetarian Restaurant” – 2010 to 2014 – One of the galore first organic foods – Retail and F&B initiative.

Paneesh Rao – Co-Founder

Armed with a Diploma in Hotel Management with 22 years sales and marketing experience in the Hospitality sector, F&B Industry, Consultancy services for – Plug and Play serviced Office space. Worked with top brands – Club Mahindra, Marriott International, Radisson & Grand Hyatt.

  • Entrepreneurial experience – Owned and operated Serviced Apartments, Guest Houses, Corporate Catering services, Organic Store and Restaurant. Provided consultancy services to Boutique Hotels and Restaurants, New Bridge Business Centers and Quest Offices as an external consultant handling P& L responsibilities.

When we asked what has been their biggest challenge Paneesh says, “The change of dynamics is the first one to mention. The transition that was needed to be an entrepreneur from being an employee was the toughest. It takes a lot of discipline to be in a business. On a professional front, to be constantly able to manage and motivate the employees, lack of vendors who understand the need of the market, variable commodity prices are few work-related issues. But what keeps us going forward, is the achievement of every single milestone we have set. It refuels our want to achieve more and makes us double our efforts towards the accomplishment of bigger goals.”
