healclinic: A startup that upholds the power of alternate therapies

Given the mainstream medicine practice, the power of alternate therapies usually goes unheard. healclinic is one such startup which focuses on building the awareness of these widespread therapies amongst the people and is striving to make a difference. Team SoS had this wonderful opportunity of having a hearty discussion with the Founder, Deepti Arora. Read on to get inspired.

Sos: Share with us your business idea and why you chose this specific business to be an entrepreneur.

Deepti: The founders of healclinic had a personal experience wherein a cousin suffering from an auto immune disorder was not responding to conventional allopathic medicines and had developed severe side effects. A close friend suggested alternative therapy approach.

The treatment was successful, and subsequently many of our extended family members took to alternate therapy with astounding results. They key struggle which we all faced was finding a good practitioner close to home and one who would explain how the therapies really worked.

This inspired us to create a platform where clients get connected to verified practitioners, with an added layer of counsellors who can understand their requirements and recommend the right practitioner. To eliminate the location challenge, the platform had the ability to do video consulting to cater to global clients.

To have a holistic experience for clients we have an ecommerce shop selling natural and holistic products complementing the offered therapies.

SoS: What kind of products do you offer to your clients and list out the key milestones of your business?

Deepti: We offer 40+ non-conventional therapies ranging from Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Yoga, Hypnotherapy, Reiki, Pranic healing, Theta healing, Tarot Reading, Nutrition, Past Life Regression, Vaastu & many more.

The ecommerce shop offers natural & holistic products, across categories like yoga apparel, Ayurveda products, nutritional supplements, aroma oils, rudraksha, skin & hair care. Every week more products and brands are getting added.

SoS: What makes your business unique and how do you define your marketing strategies?

Deepti: At healclinic we offer healthcare solutions using alternate therapies and not just one off consultations. We understand client requirements, align the appropriate therapy and take them through the entire healing journey.

Our uniqueness also stems from the fact that we have 40+ therapies and 250+ practitioners empanelled from across the country. Our marketing strategies are very specifically targeted using both offline and digital media channels.

SoS: Is your business bootstrapped or funded?

Deepti: It is a bootstrapped self-funded start-up.

SoS: What financial plans have you thought of to grow or expand your business?

Deepti: We will continue to be self-funded for the next couple of months till we become cash positive and then approach the market for seed funding.

SoS: What are the plans for your business in the coming future?

Deepti: In the coming months, we are looking at expanding our client base across India, North America, Europe and South East Asia.

SoS: What have been your challenges and the obstacles continuously in your entrepreneurial journey?

Deepti: Our biggest challenge is educating and converting clients to use alternate therapy first and then doing it remotely using the medium of video.

As an entrepreneur, you face obstacles daily be it getting the payroll processed in time, to getting the deliverables from an outsourced vendor, to sometimes even making sure that the office is cleaned on time. But the journey is interesting.

SoS: What have been the key ingredients that made your entrepreneurial dream a success?

Deepti: Passion, belief in what we are doing, patience and persistence.

SoS: What is biggest source of inspiration that keeps you walking through the entrepreneurial journey?

Deepti: The knowledge and the belief in the potential of alternate therapies and the impact we can create towards health of mankind globally.

SoS: What would you want to convey to the budding entrepreneurs?

Deepti: There is no shortcut to building and running a successful business. The most important thing to remember is that the basic rule that a business is successful and viable only if you work towards a business model which makes money.  So more than working towards what you feel is needed in the market, understand what your clients really want and not what you want to sell and be flexible to adapt with the environment.

SoS: How different it is to be a women entrepreneur and how you manage the taboo?

Deepti: I believe an entrepreneur is an entrepreneur irrespective of the fact that it could be a man or a woman, who faces the same challenges. There is no taboo in a woman running a business, they have been doing so for centuries. It’s just that these days it has become fashionable to highlight and focus on them.
